Shiva Ramoudith

Patrick attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he obtained five degrees including a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He has worked at Bose Corporation, Bell Laboratories, AT&T Laboratories, Ericsson and Huawei. He has published extensively with over 150 refereed journal and conference publications. He holds 41 granted patents in the areas of telecommunications and wireless technologies. He was nominated for the Ericsson Inventor of the Year award in 2004, was the Huawei US Wireless Research Employee of the year for 2007 and is a 2015 Anthony Sabga Caribbean Laureate for Science and Technology. Patrick is presently the administrative and technical contact for the TT top level domain, CEO of the TTNIC and a Professor of Computer Science at the University of the West Indies. His present areas of research include Applied Data Science, Operations Research and Performance and Pricing Optimization for Cellular Networks

Inzamam Rahaman graduated with a BSc in Computer Science from The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. During his penultimate year, he worked under the AgriNeTT project developing models for crop price prediction and developing web applications for agricultural data visualisation. For his undergraduate project, he adapted a VQ Index Based Steganography technique to an FPGA using VHDL. In the period immediately following his degree, he interned at the NASA Ames Research Centre developing geospatial web applications using NASA’s Web World Wind SDK. In addition to working as an MPhil Fellow of TTLAB, he is also a teaching assistant for the Department of Computing and Information Technology. His present areas of research interest are in Social Network Analysis, Data Mining, and Artifical Intelligence.

Shiva obtained his B.Sc. degree in Computer Science with first-class honors and an M.Sc. Computer Science with distinction from the University of the West Indies.
Shiva is currently a Data Scientist assigned to the CIBC FICB project. He also a part-time tutor for the Department of Computing and Information Technology at the UWI, where he assists in courses ranging from software engineering to data analysis. While completing his undergraduate degree, Shiva was a software developer for the AgriNeTT and CSRP projects at the department. For his M.Sc. project, he collaborated with Professor Hosein and Massy Technologies, Trinidad. The project focused on optimizing vehicle imports for the company.
Shiva led a team of students to represent Trinidad at the ACM ICPC regionals in 2018. He was also a part of the winning team for the bmobile Code Challenge in 2019.
His interests lie in data science, cybersecurity, and teaching.

Kris Manohar is passionate about research, teaching, and student development. He has received a B.S. degree in Computer Science and a M.S. Computer Science with distinction from the University of the West Indies. Since 2010, he has been with the Department of Computing and Information Technology (DCIT). During his time at DICT he has taught several undergraduate courses in computer science and mathematics, and has been involved with the organization of several local and international contests, and training activities. A few examples are the ACM-ICPC national contests (2012, 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019), AMC-ICPC national training camps (2013, 2018), Open Data conference and code sprint (2013, 2015), Computing Fourm (2012, 2013), DICT Runtime competition (2012, 2013) and DCIT Bootcamp (2011, 2012, 2017, 2018). Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at the UWI. His research interests include information hiding, stegoanogrpahy, data compression, and image processing.

Kevan has worked in the Analytics & Data Science field for the past 8 years in various industries including Telecoms, Banking & Finance and Business Consultancy throughout the Caribbean and Central America region. He is the holder of a BSc. Mathematics (UWI) and MSc. Statistics (UWI). Currently he serves as the Manager, Analytics & Marketing Technology at Republic Bank Limited. Kevan is passionate about sharing his love and knowledge on all things related to Data and in using it to add value to the world around him. His research interest lies Machine Learning Applications, Natural Language Processing and Predictive Modelling.

Current MSc Data Science Student at the UWI St Augustine after graduating from the BSc Electrical and Computer Engineering with a specialty in Computer Systems. My current pursuits lie in machine learning, specifically optimizing classic methods for few-shot image/video processing and natural language processing. Side-hobbies include Indian classical music and photography, I’ve worked both in the aviation industry (Augmented Reality application development) and the public sector (process optimization), and I’m currently an Associate Professional in the Department of Engineering at UWI St Augustine.

Jaimie is a national Open scholarship winner and graduate of Sorbonne University with a bachelor’s in Physics. She recently completed an MSc in Biomedical Physics at UWI, where her thesis entailed microscopic studies alongside structural and micro- structural characterization of kidney stones with X-ray diffraction Rietveld analysis. She considers herself a general physics enthusiast but is especially intrigued by quantum. This year, she decided to take on machine learning and quantum programming and is aiming to combine the two for solving crystal structures and understanding the properties of materials. Outside of science-ing, she is fluent in French and a major fan of steeped tea.

Fazeeia Mindy Mohammed graduated from the University of the West Indies with a bachelors’ in Environmental and Natural Resource Management with a minor in Biology. She worked as a Teaching Assistant for three years where she implemented computer networks and taught children about ICT’s. The under utilization of technology in the classroom motivated her to pursue a BSc special in Computer Science. During her degree she participated in Virtanna Code Jam and ICPC. She interned at Wapala where she dealt with UI/UX design, data analytics and chat-bot creation. She built numerous industry implemented chat-bots. Currently, she is engaged in applying machine learning and experimental design concepts to advance agriculture in the Caribbean.  In her spare time she plays competitive video games and swims.

Stephen Ghool is a final year Electrical and Computer Engineering student at the University of the West Indies where he aims to complete Computer, Electronics and Communications thematic options. Mr. Ghool has a deep interest for robotics, artificial intelligence, biomedical technologies, security and music. He is hardworking, self-motivated, welcomes positive criticism and enjoys the outdoors with family and friends. Presently, he is involved with Accell Engineering Ltd. where they developed a low-cost security system for homes and businesses. For his final year project, he is utilizing Deep Learning to estimate serum glucose states of an individual from a video recording.

Ken Manohar has over eighteen years work experience in the IT Service Industry. He has fulfilled multiple roles, from implementation and support to project management and pre-sales. He led a 24/7 Managed Services team aligned to the ITIL framework. He was also the solution integrator for building a multi-tenanted private cloud and for migrating customers across data centers. His experience is varied, from running network cables, to implementing email clusters, to creating hybrid environments using SaaS solutions. It has taught him that IT Governance, IT Security and Data Analytics are key aspects common to all successful IT environments. He is currently an MSc Data Science student at UWI, St. Augustine and has an interest in Recommender Systems.

My name is Shannon-Rae and I am passionate about combatting climate change while ensuring energy security. I am a postgraduate student at the University of Trinidad and Tobago pursuing an M.Sc. in Energy Engineering with a specialisation in Renewable Energy. I have a B.Sc. in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of the West Indies. I am very keen to use and enhance my knowledge in the field of data analytics and machine learning to create modern solutions for the energy transition.

Daniel obtained his Bachelors in Electrical and Computer Engineering with honors from the University of the West Indies. During the earlier part of his degree, he interned at Teleios and Digicel working on various projects. During his third year he interned at IBM TJ Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights in New York, USA. There he worked on projects involving AI and augmented reality. Upon completion of his internship, he published and presented his research project at the 2019 International Conference on AI and Mobile Services in San Diego, USA. Daniel has participated in a few competitions including Teleios Code Jam where his team won and the Bmobile Connect Coding Competition where his team placed second. After graduation Daniel worked at a startup on projects involving facial recognition, text extraction and facial comparison. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Data Science at the University of the West Indies and has hobbies including photography, traveling, and reading.

Sabrina is currently a student at the University of the West Indies pursuing a Master’s in Data Science. She possesses a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Geoscience with First Class Honours, obtaining the Best Geoscience Award for her final year project on evaluating the producibility of thin-bedded reservoirs in the Columbus Basin, Trinidad. Her passions lie in machine learning, data analytics and visualisations. Other interests include farming and agriculture with special interest in hydroponics and aquaponics. She currently works as a Research Assistant at the Jones Research Centre.

Vishan is a final year Electrical and Computer Engineering student at the University of the West Indies. The thematic options chosen in his final year include specializations in computer systems and control systems. His final year project was focused on creating a web platform that provides tools and information for users to not only learn about image and video processing but also execute and view code for different techniques and algorithms. He is an aspiring engineer interested in artificial intelligence, web and app development, embedded systems, electronics and automation. Vishan is passionate about his research and projects but also enjoys playing football, going to the gym and playing musical instruments.

Karishma graduated in 2020 with first class honors from the BSc. Actuarial Science (Special) program at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus. She developed an interest in statistical inference and data analytics in her final year as an undergraduate student. Currently, she is pursuing an MSc. Data Science at the same institution. Her aim is to one day use her expertise to investigate real world issues in the fields of Agriculture and Health Data Science. Karishma is a philomath and in her free time she enjoys reading, cooking, and connecting with nature.

Sabina is currently pursuing her masters in Data Science at the University of the West Indies. She graduated with a major in Math and minors in Economics and Statistics(UWI).  Her interests are in statistics, data analytics and machine learning. Sabina is a foodie who loves travel and meeting new people.

Mercedes has more than 8 years’ experience in research. A two-time national scholarship awardee, she completed her BSc. in Economics with a double major in Psychology at the University of South Florida in Tampa and her MSc. in Psychology at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. During her studies, she conducted research in the areas of executive function and self-control as well as in refugee integration. Currently, she is a student of the MSc. in Data Science programme. She also works as an Educational Research Officer at the Ministry of Education where she analyses student performance data and conducts studies to identify factors contributing to student success. Her research interests include behavioural data science, decision-making, and the application of data science to human and social development. Apart from research, she speaks fluent Spanish and enjoys travelling and doing yoga in her spare time.

Brittany has graduated from the University of the West Indies (UWI) with a BSc. Mathematics with Statistics. She was awarded a National Additional Scholarship in the year 2019 in the area of Mathematics. She is about to begin work as an Associate Professional at EximBank. Brittany is currently pursuing the MSc. Statistics at UWI. She is passionate about statistics, data analytics and creating data driven solutions.

Johnny Tiu obtained his BSc & M.Phil in Mechanical Engineering at the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine with a focus on structural vibration and rotor-dynamic faults. As a Research Assistant at UWI he formally outlined and developed the methodologies that undergraduate students & fellow researchers use to collect vibration data and a tool to semi-automate vibration testing. Under mentorship from Professor Hosein, he placed second in the University category for Shell.ai’s Hackathon for Sustainable and Affordable Energy, which was to optimally place EV charging stations such that the configuration is robust to demographic changes. His research interests are Data Analysis, Vibration Control, and Acoustics. His hobbies include 3D printing & prototyping, musical instruments (guitar, violin, piano, etc.), and cooking.
